FlySteel Norse Thrower v4 Tomahawk Review
The qualities of the Norse Thrower throwing tomahawk
The shape of its head recalls the well-known Norse Hawk from Cold Steel reputed to be one of the best throwing tomahawk. The FlySteel Norse Thrower therefore provides similar sensations. But it is of course not 100% identical. It is 40g lighter (which can make a difference after a long throwing session) and its curves lean a little more towards the Francisca style. Which makes it very pleasant in reverse throwing.
The FlySteel Norse Thrower has a solid 45cm hickory handle. This is the best way to enjoy a wooden handle without breaking it too often! It is a conical handle, so much stronger than hatchet handles and also quicker to replace.
The head of the FlySteel Norse Thrower tomahawk has the advantage of being drilled on both sides. It is therefore ready to be bolted to the handle. Which is a big time saver when preparing the axe!
The v4 vs previous ones
Version 4 of the FlySteel Norse Thrower tomahawk erases all the flaws of previous versions. This version is produced in a serious factory in Europe which respected the specifications to perfection.
The cutting edges are very fine and the grind is pronounced. No need to redo them yourself on this version. It stick perfectly, even on difficult targets. And it damages the targets less!
Less steel = less weight. So they are also lighter. And a lot! The head is 380g compared to 440g for v2.
With this version, you will be able to reach a weight of around 580g once prepared in 37cm.
The heads are forged very cleanly and there is very little dimensional variation from head to head. The eye is CNC drilled for even more precision.
The steel used is 1055 with quality heat treatment. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to dull the edges, they are also thinner and therefore more fragile. But we are on something more resistant despite the fact that it is much thinner!
